How to manually uninstall a failed installation of Veritas Storage Foundation 5.0

Today, on a clean build server, the VSF 5.0 install decided to hang at 50% for an hour. I decided to kill the install and bounce the server.

Coming back, I tried to re-install the software, no go. First you have to uninstall the existing software.

OK, tried that. Uninstall fails at 18% – file not found.

A repair maybe? Repair fails at 38% – file not found.

What’s a sys admin to do? Luckily there is a script called: VxCleanup.bat that lives in the toolsvpiCleanupScript 32 or 64.

The script will try to uninstall first, if that fails, ALL Veritas software, registry entries and folders will be removed. So that’s the bad news. Now you have to reinstall all your Veritas software…

Obligitory I didn’t fall off the face of the Earth post

It has been some time since I posted but just wanted to let everyone on the latest developments.

I have taken a new job with GE Medical and will be working on their server-build team. In the mean time I have been busy brain dumping to my new replacements at NRC so they can keep the ship afloat. Most of my time has been consumed with this. As soon as life returns to normal, so will my posts.

Office 2010 and CRM 4.0 for Outlook – 32 bit only!

Just started playing with Office 2010 beta. Learn from my mistake. Don’t be enticed by the 64 bit version of Office 2010 if you run the CRM 4.0 for Outlook plugin. The plugin client is only 32 bit. If Outlook 2010 64 bit is installed CRM will fail to find a valid installed email program. Reinstall the 32 bit version and all is well.

So far CRM 4.0 for Outlook with Rollup 7 installed is rock solid on 2010 beta!

2008 Server R2 – WTF? Where’s my WI-FI?

So configuring 2008 Server R2 on my laptop and would like to connect to a WLAN. After verifying that the driver was functional, there was no way to connect to a network, WTF?

So it looks like you need to install the Wireless LAN Service to work. Seriously?

Open Server Manager > Click on Features > Add a Feature > Locate Wireless LAN Service and install.

No reboot required, now your WNIC is able to connect to a WLAN.

That took way too long to figure out…
